Why it matters

Water for All is Atlas Copco Group’s internal charity, founded on the belief that access to clean drinking water is a basic human right. Since 1984, colleagues across the Group have supported projects bringing safe water and sanitation to communities worldwide. Every donation is doubled by the company, so your impact goes three times as far. We’re proud to partner with Just a Drop, who will be delivering these life-changing projects in the communities that need them most.

Millions of women and girls still walk up to 20,000 steps a day (around 16 km) just to fetch water for their families. By joining STEPtember, your steps will help bring clean water closer to home, giving back time for education, work, and rest.

How it works

Step 1 – Download the app and create an account

To enter the challenge, you need to download the free StepUp Pedometer app from either the Apple or Android app store onto the mobile device you are going to use, and create an account/sign in to the app.

Step 2 – Make your donation

We have asked that you make a donation of your choice. The amount you choose to donate is entirely up to you. Our recommendation is £5, but our preference is that you take part, so please donate what you can afford and feel comfortable with. 100% of your donation will go straight to the funding of Water for All projects.

Please ensure you provide an email address that you can access on the device you have downloaded the app to and intend to use for the challenge. Click the blue button above or below to make the donation.

Step 3 – Check your email for the link to join the team

You’ll receive an email with a link to join your team. Open it on the phone you’ll be using for the challenge. Each team will have its own leaderboard: compete, or simply add your steps to your team’s daily average.

Step 4 – Get stepping!

The challenge runs from 1–30 September. Track your steps, check the leaderboard, and see which team climbs to the top.

What you’re supporting

In Chub Tatrav village in Cambodia, the local community doesn’t have access to safe water. They rely instead on dirty water from unsafe sources, which means that even everyday activities like drinking, cooking, and washing can make them sick and put their health at risk.

Many families in the community also don’t have a safe, private place to go to the toilet and are forced to use the open land, often at night. This can be dangerous, particularly for women and children, leaving them vulnerable and without the privacy and dignity they deserve.

By taking part in the STEPtember challenge, you’ll be helping the Atlas Copco Group and the Water for All Committee to change this. With your support, Just a Drop will install 100 biosand filters and construct 50 new latrines across the village, helping to create a healthier, safer environment for the whole community.

Alongside the new water and sanitation facilities, community members will receive practical hygiene education, including on how to safely store and use their water. Together, these changes will help reduce water-related illness and improve living conditions, while helping children attend school more regularly. Women and girls will particularly benefit as the burden of collecting water and caring for sick family members is reduced.
