The Partnership
VIR (Valvoindustria Ing. Rizzio S.p.A.) is a world leader in the production of valves for the regulation and management of fluids.
They are partnering with Just a Drop to fund the rehabilitation of a borehole in Mumbwa District in Zambia. There is limited access to safe water in the areas where we work in Mumbwa district, and many boreholes that were previously drilled by other organisations have stopped working. As a result, communities are forced to use unsafe sources of water – which are often far away from their homes – and this leads to water-related illnesses. Thanks to the support of VIR, the team at Just a Drop will be repairing a broken borehole, restoring access to safe water to the villagers.
Fixing a broken borehole is more efficient and cost-effective than drilling a new one. Importantly, we will also be training the village community how to maintain their borehole and carry out small repairs. This, alongside the training of Area Pump Mechanics, will help ensure the rehabilitated borehole can be kept working in the long-term. Additionally, the project will deliver hygiene education in the village, so water can be used for positive healthy behaviours.
