More about the project
When a borehole breaks, a community can be left without safe water. Your support can help change that.
For communities in Kapelebyong, North Eastern Uganda, access to safe water is something people cannot take for granted.
Across three villages, boreholes that were once a vital source of water are no longer working. Some still contain water, but corroded pipes can contaminate it with harmful metals, putting people’s health at risk. Others have stopped working altogether.
Families are left with difficult choices: queue for hours at a borehole further away, collect water from a seasonal hand-dug pond, or risk drinking water that may make them sick.
With your support, we can bring these boreholes back to life – giving 3,161 people access to safe, reliable water for years to come.
A community shouldn’t have to choose between water and health
The Kapelebyong area is still recovering from the effects of decades of conflict and displacement.
During the Ugandan Civil War, thousands of people were forcibly displaced and lived in IDP camps for many years. Boreholes were quickly installed to provide communities with an immediate source of water.
As communities began to rebuild, however, many of these boreholes were not properly maintained. Today, poor infrastructure, water scarcity and changing weather patterns continue to make life difficult for people living in the area.
For some families, the nearest working water point is a long way from home. Others rely on seasonal ponds, where water can be contaminated.
For young children, the risks are particularly serious.
With your support, Just a Drop can rehabilitate three boreholes, bringing safe, reliable water closer to home.
Your donation can help provide:
💧 Safe water for 3,161 people to drink, cook, wash and grow food.
❤️ Better health by reducing reliance on contaminated water sources.
⏰ More time for children to attend school and adults to work and support their families.
🌱 Stronger livelihoods through reliable water for growing crops.
The project will repair the three boreholes, install new hand pumps and provide communities with training to maintain them for the future.
Water connects us all
For everyone working in the water industry, the importance of safe, reliable water is something we understand every day.
But for communities like those in Kapelebyong, a reliable water supply can mean so much more than turning on a tap.
It can mean a child has time to go to school.
A parent has more time to work.
A family no longer has to choose between drinking unsafe water and going without.
And a community has the foundations it needs to build a healthier, more secure future.
This October, let's put water where it is needed most.
Your donation can help bring three boreholes back to life and safe water back to 3,161 people in Uganda.
Every contribution, whatever the size, will help Just a Drop deliver sustainable, lasting change.
