Alexander is best known for being one half of BAFTA winning comedy duo Armstrong and Miller. He has also turned his hand to straight acting and has starred in Love Life, Life Begins, Mutual Friends and Hunderby. Alexander has hosted Pointless since it began in 2009 and also Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask, Epic Win and Have I Got News For You. He is also a member of Alexander Armstrong and his Band.
Tracy won international fame in 1989 as the skipper of the first all-female crew to sail around the world in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. She was awarded Sportswoman of the Year in 1990 and paved the way for other women, including Ellen MacArthur.
Former model, Marie, was impressed by Just a Drop’s army of volunteers who willingly give their time and expertise in order to change so many people’s lives. She agreed to become the patron of our ‘Friend for Life’ campaign which was launched on World Water Day in 2011.
Jim spent his youth swimming, building rafts and narrowly escaping drowning on several occasions. He joined the army in 1943 at the tender age of 14 and scaled up the ranks to become Captain. He served for 32 years as a Sapper, which is where he learnt about all matters relating to water. At one stage he served with John Blashford-Snell and with his combat engineer experience, found himself stretched to the limit in keeping him from blowing himself up with his homemade explosive devices. Together they founded the Scientific Exploration Society and embarked on several escapades along the Blue Nile. Returning from a stint in the Congo, Jim became involved in running various youth ventures, including Operation Drake, Raleigh and the Fairbridge, earning him an MBE for his ‘services to youth’.
Martin is a respected property, travel and lifestyle TV presenter and journalist. For the past seven years he has written and presented the hit BBC property auction show ‘Homes under the Hammer’.
Stephen is a BBC journalist and presenter of the current affairs programme HARDtalk, which interviews newsmakers and personalities from across the globe. Stephen ran the London Marathon in aid of Just a Drop in 2010 and is planning to do it again for us in 2014!
Alastair presents a ITV London’s flagship news and features programme ‘London Tonight’. In the voluntary sector, Alastair is Vice President of both Action for Children and Home Start, and Patron of the Lord Mayor Treloars College for disabled students, amongst others.
A barrister by qualification, Jack entered the travel business in 1961 and is currently President of the European Tour Operator’s Association (ETOA). For much of the year Jack lives in Thailand and South Africa. He has been a staunch supporter of Just a Drop for many years.
Alfred has been the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Corinthia Group since its inception in 1962. “I am delighted to be a corporate patron for Just a Drop. The charity provides the world with an essential ingredient for life – clean water.”
Richard has spent almost his entire career in the tourism industry in a number of private sector senior appointments. He has written articles for trade journals, advised a number of overseas governments on tourism strategy and serves on a range of public sector boards as a tourism advisor. Richard is the Chairman of Best Loved Hotels (Europe), this being a leading online hotel guide for an eclectic collection of independent properties in the UK and Ireland.
