Fancy a star-gazing sleep-out in your own back garden? Then mark 28th July on your calendar for THE NATIONAL GARDEN SLEEP-OUT! Sponsored by Primrose, the home and garden centre in Reading, the event is both a celebration of summer and a great fundraising initiative for this year’s beneficiaries: Just a Drop and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Managing Director of Primrose, Ian Charles, is encouraging people up and down the country to dig out their sleeping bags for this nationwide garden slumber and to join in making a voluntary donation to one of the charities. Of Just a Drop, he said, “We are very lucky to have such plentiful clean water – even with a hose-pipe ban. It’s important to remember, as we water our gardens, that there are many in the world who do not even have clean water to drink. Just a Drop is a great cause! My boys couldn’t wait until July – they’ve already done a trial run!”
In addition, for every picture or video of your sleep-out which is emailed to sleepout2012@primrose.co.uk before 31st August and appears on the Sleep-Out webpage, Primrose will donate £5 – with the total being split between the two charities.
Paralympics athlete, Bethy Woodward, is also backing the campaign: “As a child there is nothing more exciting than making your own den in the garden and camping out all night – I used to wonder, who among my friends would last the longest with all the different sounds and shadows! This July, all children involved can feel very proud if they manage to last all night because the money donated will help other children in the world to play magical games like we can!”
In the meantime, to ensure your children have a magical and fun ‘forty winks’ on the 28thJuly, why not request an activity pack, which features games and quizzes to enjoy in the garden!
