Uganda, Grace Christian Centre (2006)

Grace Christian Academy (GCA) is a non-governmental and non-profit making educational institution, which provides nursery and primary education to mainly orphans. It is situated in Gulu Municipality in the war-ravaged region of Northern Uganda.
As a result of the civil war that has been going on for the last nineteen years between the Government of Uganda and the rebel forces in the Northern Region, over 1.6 million people in the area have been displaced from their homes into what are commonly called Internally Displaced People's Camps (IDP).

The Role of Grace Christian Academy.

The GCA has been effective in contributing towards the joint efforts of alleviating the suffering of the war-affected children, especially the orphans. This year there are over one thousand orphans receiving free education at GCA.

One of the most critical challenges GCA is facing in looking after such a large number of children is the shortage of clean and safe drinking water.

Just a Drop, Scientific Exploration Society and Africa Revival worked in partnership to assist the local school (which is largely occupied by 1,900 orphans and refugees avoiding the Lords Resistance Army) with the:

• Construction of a well and water distribution system to provide clean water for the children of the Grace Christian. The project has now commenced.
