Texas Water Safari

       Water Safari          water safari

The Texas Water Safari is a 260 mile non stop canoe marathon to be completed within 100 hours

The NS Nomads team from the UK are entering the Texas Water Safari in June 2011 and they have kindly agreed to support Just a Drop as one of their chosen charities.

The key aims for the team are:

To finish the race, with an additional aim of being in the top 50 as first time entrants.

To build awareness and funds for their two nominated charities

To raise sport awareness for the older age group – none of the team had participated in this sport before 2007.

To raise awareness of canoeing and kayaking for the older age group.

And to be one of very few non US based teams to ever enter this race

Please support the NS Nomads team today by donating today - http://www.justgiving.com/NS-Nomads-Just-A-Drop and please visit their website for an update on the team’s training and progress www.texaswatersafari.org

Dakar 2011 | Rally4Life

The Dakar Rallies are among the most grueling and dangerous motorsports rallies in the world; Canadian Mark Jennings-Bates and Britain’s Mick Extance are already preparing for races in 2011 and 2012.

‘Rally4Life’ has real meaning”, says businessman Jennings-Bates, “not only for myself, Mick and the Bowler team, but also for the thousands of children who right now are dying at the rate of every 20 seconds because they simply do not have clean water. We aim to highlight their plight worldwide and to raise money that will make a real difference to people’s lives.”

JACK BURCOMBE, aged 10, grandson of Just A Drop trustee Jane Larcombe, gave a right royal performance in September by raising £1,100 for the charity.

Jack, helped in the fund-raising by his father Russell, competed in the Hever Castle triathlon for juniors and finished the course in a highly respectable 37 minutes 48 seconds - his first attempt at the sport. He swam 100metres in the lake, cycled 4k cross country and finished with a 1.3k run.

Jack, who attends Beechwood School in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was photographed at the finish line with 'King Henry VIII' and his wife 'Anne Boleyn.'

The 2010 Virgin London Marathon was held on Sunday 25 April. With over 35,000 runners taking to the streets of London.

It is one of the world's most prestigious and exciting sporting events  This year Stephen Sackur, BBC journalist and presenter of current affairs programme HARDtalk and a Patron of Just a Drop completed the Marathon in 4 hours 33 minutes in aid of Just a Drop raising over £5,000.

Ian Taplin | Swim 4 Africa

In August 2009, Ian Taplin, Sales Manager for Rex Safaris braved the Mediterranean and together with his swimming coach, Robert Parkinson swam across the 12-mile (20 kilometre) Straits of Gibraltar which has been swum by less than 250 people in the last 80 years.

“I was attracted to Just a Drop because its message is a simple one, that even small amounts of money can and are making a difference in the third world”, said Ian,45. I understand that times may be difficult for many people, but if everyone donates just a small amount we can help give the gift of life to hundreds of babies and children.”

Ian and Robert raised £5.000.00 for Just a Drop

Cathy Burgess | There’s no stopping her!

Not content with joining a team of 17 other volunteers to spend a week of grueling hard labour re-building a crumbling school in Namibia, Cathy Burgess, the Army’s first female operational  bomb disposal officer, has already also exceeded her target to raise £2,000 for Just a Drop and sponsor a project in Ethiopia.

“Just a Drop’s work is vitally important to children in particular because under the age of five they do not have a fully developed immune system and frequently fall ill with water-borne diseases. Clean water can literally mean the difference between life and death, but the sad fact is that a child dies every 20 seconds somewhere in the world because of pollution”.

Daniela Wagner | Weighing up the pros!

Daniela Wagner, CEO of eWaterways, completed her six-month Fit to Fly campaign, and lost an incredible amount of weight and raised £2,225.00 for Just a Drop.

Daniela was put through her paces by fitness expert Mark Bailey as part of BBC World’s Fast Track travel show and before her final weigh-in at the Business Travel Market in June.

“Though some days were especially tough, I couldn’t but help then thinking of those who were having much tougher times because they didn’t have access to clean safe water. Take women in Africa who every day need to walk 4 miles to collect water that their families need to simply survive” said Daniela. “I can’t thank enough all those in the travel industry who not only donated funds but also supported me along the way.”

Discover Adventure

One of the most rewarding ways to raise funds is by setting a physical challenge and being sponsored by family and friends.

There are a host of ‘Open Challenge’ trekking and cycling destinations for those for their who would like to choose Just a Drop as their charity. Choose a challenge.

Just a Drop has already undertaken treks into Machu Picchu and Petra and you can do the same

THANK YOU!
