Monde Primary School in Uganda has become the first sponsored project by South East Asia based company, SIGNEO – one of Just a Drop’s new premier partners. The project will benefit a community totalling 1,448 people, 623 of whom are school children.
At present, there is no single protected well in the area near to the school and the children are having to walk up to four hours a day to collect it from a dirty and unprotected source. This is having an impact on both the time they spend in school and therefore, their education as well as on their health, which suffers as a result of the poor quality of the water they are forced to drink.
Thanks to funding from SIGNEO, Just a Drop will be able to construct a rainwater harvesting system at the school, install toilets and washrooms and provide WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) training to the members of the community.
Kelly Railton, Head of Fundraising for Just a Drop commented: “Just a Drop is delighted to welcome SIGNEO on board as our first premier partner outside of Europe. The community in and surrounding Monde Primary School is just the first of many they will be supporting around the world through their generous contribution.”
Following on from this project, SIGNEO® – a corporate brand within the Nitgen & Company group – will, from September onwards, donate a proportion of the proceeds generated by its indoor LED bulb net sales in certain countries to Just a Drop’s water and sanitation projects.
