Harvey Penick would have seen magic moves and birdies a plenty if he’d been at this year’s annual Charity Golf Day, which took place on 5th September. 128 travel industry golfers teed off on the Ian Woosnam Championship Course at the Dale Hill Golf Club on a gloriously sunny day in east Sussex – in aid of Just a Drop.
The event – sponsored for the eighth consecutive year by Jetset – attracted some major travel industry names including Avis, RCCL, Sandals, Virgin Atlantic, Travelport, Sabre, and golfbreaks.com.
Congratulations go to Steve Hartridge of Selling Long Haul who rounded off the day as the Champion Golfer and to the Jetset team, who took home the accolade of overall winning team.
Over 140 people attended the gala dinner and demonstrated their fantastic support for Just a Drop by raising a record breaking £15,850 at auction.
Just a Drop Guest Speaker, Dan Letoiye, from the West Gate Community Conservancy in Kenya gave an impassioned speech of how working with Just a Drop has benefited his community – primarily by saving many women and children a 16km round trip to fetch water from the river. He also cited cases of how previously, school pupils had been attacked and killed by crocodiles at the river’s edge. By providing the community with a new, local water supply, Just a Drop has helped to ensure that the villagers are much healthier and safer.
Fiona Jeffery, founder of Just a Drop, said, “My sincere thanks go to Jetset and Giles
Harper for their continuing support of the Just a Drop Golf Day. The sun shone, the course gleamed, the golfers and guests enjoyed themselves, the organisation was superb, and the event generated the best results ever for fundraising on the night. It means a huge amount to everyone and the camaraderie that is experienced that day is a testament to all involved, so Just a Drop feels privileged to be a part of it. Over nine years, this event has raised more than £100,000 for the charity, which is a fantastic achievement!”
Thanks to everyone who supported the event, players, hole sponsors, prize donors, Graham McKenzie of Travelmole for the ‘Beat the Mole’ Par 3 Challenge and of course our event sponsor Jetset – quite simply, the day would not have happened without them all.
The 10th anniversary Just a Drop Charity Golf Day will be returning to Dale Hill on 4th September 2013. To register your interest, please contact Giles at: giles.harper@e-tid.com
