Why Does Just a Drop Need Your Support?

  • Many children miss out on an education because they have to spend hours each day collecting water instead of going to school
  • Girls are particularly affected, because without latrines or water to wash themselves with, they drop out of school once they hit puberty
  • Dirty water can cause illnesses such as diarrhoea and cholera, leading to death

So… if safe water is close at hand, these children will be able to spend more time at school. With an education and better health, they are more likely to break the poverty cycle.

Click here to see how some of Just a Drop’s water projects make a difference  to children in other countries who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Can You Imagine?

The pictures below show what a typical school in Africa looks like. Did you imagine it would look like this? As you can see, class sizes are very large, and children often have to sit on makeshift benches or the floor. Many schools also face problems with water and sanitation – perhaps their toilet blocks are falling into disrepair or there is only one toilet, which has to be shared by over 100 pupils. Often, the source of water is a long way from the school and children either have to bring their own water to school or walk long distances in order to collect it. Find out how Just a Drop has supported schools like this by reading some of our case studies.

Let’s Get Started

Children at a water pump

If you would like to help other children around the world, who are less fortunate than you are, the Splash 4 Kids pack is a great way to start! It is designed to give you ideas of how to raise funds for Just a Drop’s water projects, which will allow us to continue our vital work in some of the poorest parts of the world.

The pack contains facts about unsafe water, information about Just a Drop and a whole range of fundraising ideas which will ensure you make a splash! Fundraising activities suggested in the pack include throwing wet sponges at your teachers, organising a sponsored swim and firing water pistols!
