Robert Baty OBE

Bob Baty is a civil engineer by profession.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, a Fellow of the Institution of Water Officers, and a Companion of the Institute of Management.
He joined South West Water in 1988 as Engineering Director,and at the time of privatisation in 1989 became a member of the Board team responsible for preparing the organisation for floatation on the stock market. Subsequent to that process he was responsible for the management and delivery of a £2.0 billion capital investment programme (the largest, relative to size, of all the water companies) including 'Clean Sweep', the programme designed to ensure all bathing waters around the south west peninsular of England met European Bathing and Urban Waste Water Directive standards.
In 1996 he was appointed Chief Executive of South West Water, responsible for all aspects of the company's activities, and to the Board of Pennon Group Plc. the Stock Exchange quoted parent company of the water business.
Overall he has spent over forty years in the Water Industry gaining experience in all aspects of water and waste water management from both a technical and managerial point of view. He started his career with North West Water (now United Utilities)and its predecessors, responsible for the construction of a number of major pipelines, reservoirs and treatment works before being appointed to senior operational management, customer service and corporate management roles.
In 2002 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the water industry.
Bob Baty recently retired from the position of Chief Executive of South West Water, having spent over forty years in the Water Industry.
He is married with two daughters and lives in Exeter.
