Jane Larcombe has had more than 20 years experience in national and international public relations. She has two unique qualities; an almost unbeatable and varied range of public relations/media expertise and crisis management at the very highest level. She is a former top ten London pr consultancy director, now operating a small, personalised public relations agency from East Sussex.
A former national journalist (Daily Mail/former London Evening News/Kent Evening Post), she was a director and part-owner of the top ten London pr consultancy Charles Barker for ten years, responsible for the Travel and Leisure Division. Charles Barker was sold to True North in 1997 and is now part of Weber Shandwick, the largest pr company in the world. Jane Larcombe and her fellow directors left a year after the buy-out. She began Jane Larcombe Communications in 1998 and specialises in leisure, travel, business to business, travel exhibitions and sport.

After time spent at the Kent Evening Post, London Evening News and the Daily Mail, she started in 1977 in the corporate PR department of P&0. A year later she became PR Manager of P&0 Ferries. She joined Charles Barker in 1983 and became a director two years later, when she also took over the management of the Travel and Leisure Division.

Her division’s accounts included American Express Holidays, Shearing Holidays, Butlin’s Holidays, United States Travel and Tourism Association, Bahamas Tourist Board, Irish Tourist Board, Launch of Eurotunnel, Seafrance, Royal Caribbean, National Express, the launch of new attraction at Dover ‘The White Cliffs Experience, the relaunch of the Independent and Independent on Sunday.

1977 - 1978 Corporate PR Executive for P&0 SN Co.
1978 - 1984 PR Manager for P&0 Ferries
1985 - 1998 Account Director/Associate Director/Divisional Head/Director and finally part owner (one of 12) at Charles Barker.

JLC also launched the new standardised rating scheme for hotels and b&b’s in the UK on behalf of the English Tourism Council, in conjunction with the AA, the RAC and the Government (Department of Media Culture and Sport). JLC is also responsible for the pr for the Travel Trust Association, a UK industry association representing 500 independent agents and specialist niche travel and activity operators.

JLC also produces a quarterly newsletter for members and business partners. The company has also been involved with a number of sports and activity PR accounts, such as advising a national boxing promoter re a high profile boxing contract with the BBC and confidential ongoing crisis management pr advice to a major leisure company.
