Funded by the great generosity of all those who donated to Just a Drop at the British Curry Awards 2006, Just a Drop will now be able to support a WaterAid project working with a large community in Bangladesh. This project, run by WaterAid, is part of a multi-year partnership programme working in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.
The population of Bangladesh stands at around 150million. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The 1996 Development Report places Bangladesh amongst the 3 poorest countries in the world. The high occurrence of water-related disease across the country is the greatest cause of premature child mortality and accounts for 24% of all deaths in Bangladesh.
