The future of Afghanistan, a post conflict country in transition, hinges on long-term investment in the health sector. The health status of its 29 million inhabitants is amongst the worst in the world. Afghanistan is one of the few countries in which the life expectancy of women is lower than that of men; it has the second highest maternal mortality rate in the world. Every 30 minutes, one woman dies in Afghanistan of pregnancy related complications and problems during childbirth- nearly halve of these maternal deaths could be prevented with better health care provision.
Just a Drop will be working with The Afghan Mother & Child Rescue to fund a delivery room complex at a Health Centre in Dara, Afghanistan. The Scientific Exploration Society will work on behalf of Just a Drop to send out professionals in the field to install effective: piping and plumbing of a clean water supply for the clinic and to provide and install septic tanks to ensure adequate sanitation.
