This project was the result of a partnership between Just a Drop and the Institute of International Peace through Tourism (IIPT).
The British Red Cross identified the village of Ndundunyikanza in the Rufiji District of Tanzania as a suitable project for the partnership. The population of 3,260 people was suffering from diarrhoea epidemics, including outbreaks of cholera, owing to the poor supply of clean water. The main water source for the village was a seasonal stream that dried up after the rainy season for as long as six months. A previous pipe-water system had stopped working 10 years ago.

Just a Drop was able to:

  • Construct a water tank stand
  • Provide a 10,000 litre Sim Tank
  • Drill boreholes and install a pump and generator
  • Construct a pump house
  • Install a distribution system (300m of pipes and fittings)
  • Build a latrine.
