In November 2001, Colonel John Blashford-Snell OBE, President of Just a Drop, received a request for aid of £1,784/$3,530 for a project at Seven Lakes, in the 22 District of Achachicala-Hampaturi in the municipality of La Paz, Bolivia. The construction of a reservoir tank and piping was urgently needed for the villagers who had to walk a kilometre uphill to a small stream to draw water. At 15,000 feet, this could be very difficult in the snow and bitter cold of winter. Sometimes villagers had to collect water from muddy pools which was unfit to drink and potentially dangerous.
The money Just a Drop donated made a huge difference to the local community. In 2001, Achachicala-Hampaturi had 1,360 inhabitants and the project serviced 480 community families, who now have a source of clean drinkable water in the centre of the village. As the headman said when thanking Colonel John Blashford-Snell OBE for the help of Just a Drop, "This gift has changed our lives."
